In 1965, Fred Deluca and Dr. Peter Buck opened their first submarine sandwaich shop in Bridgeport, Connecticut. 30 years later, they entered the China market. Subway’s core product is the submarine sandwich. In addition to these, the chain also sells wraps, salad, paninis, and baked goods (including cookies, doughnuts, and muffins).
Out of all the Subway Restaurants, there is only one company-owned unit. It’s operated as a testing facility by their Research and Development Department. All the rest are franchises.
