7Fresh is JD.com’s answer to Hema. A 4000sqm large scale physical store backed by the big data, supply chain and purchasing power of their successful e-commerce platform. Fresh produce accounts for 75% of 7Fresh’s product range including fruit from New Zealand.
Shoppers can buy fresh seafood and meat and have them cooked in store for consumption on the spot and customers who live within a 5km radius can order delivered groceries within 30minutes.
7Fresh have taken technology a step further than competitors, with hands free smart shopping carts that follow the shopper rather than being pushed and can even guide shoppers to the correct aisle. As well as mobile payment, 7Fresh has face-recognition technology and ‘magic mirrors’ that sense when a shopper has picked up a product and automatically display where it hails from and about the nutritional value it contains on a screen. They also collaborate with various partners to incorporate blockchain into each step of the process from manufacturing to delivery.
