SOFT DATA
Cafe Flatwhite is inspired by the New Zealand cafe culture. The first coffe store was opened in Beijing China in 2006, and now has 13 shops in Beijing and they also provide coffee machine and training for NZ Central Shanghai. Cafe Flatwhite is run by a small team of Chinese and New Zealanders based in Beijing, and they are passionate about coffee. Combined, they have almost 30 years experience in the coffee industry. Cafe Flatwhite founded their own coffee roastery (Rickshaw Roasters) and bakery, ensuring the freshest and highest quality food and drink.
From 1989, the founder of Flatwhite Hong Fu began to study in New Zealand. After his return to China, Hong Fu missed New Zealand food and coffee so much that he initiated the idea of bringing coffee & food from New Zealand to China. It also provides juice, mineral water, dairy products which are imported from New Zealand. In the beginning all the technology and raw materials were also imported from New Zealand directly.
Michael started franchise the business from 2015 and changed some of the coffee stores to casual dinning. They are taking it at a relatively slow pace to ensure their high standards are maintained.
In the past 14 years, Cafe Flatwhite has become a window of cultural exchange between China and New Zealand.
Decisions are a team process rather than a single buyer. Flat white seem to be open to trialing new products within limited stores.
