City Shop, established in 1995, is one of the largest chain stores in Shanghai dealing in a most extensive range of gourmet foods from around the globe. With high-quality products and first-class service, City Shop never stops offering you a satisfactory shopping experience.
City Shop run up-market supermarkets in prime inner-city locations in Shanghai and Beijing featuring around 80% imported products. They were the first major foreign supermarket chain to cater to the ex-pat market specialising in ingredients from dominant foreign cuisines, particularly European, and offering a higher level of service and quality. Now middle-upper class Chinese consumers increasingly frequent City Shop for a taste of foreign luxury. City Shop also offers a delivery service and an online section (m.cityshop.com.cn). ANALYSIS & PURCHASING INSIGHTS

City Shop (not to be confused with city’super) has sold NZ F&B for a number of years. In general the group is positive towards NZ products despite the high price points. They are open to giving new foreign products a try regardless of price as they aim for a superior range.
City Shop will probably respond well to a Christmas promotion offering. While the Chinese holidays are highly competitive, City Shop like to market themselves as “Global Gourmet” so offering something special around foreign holidays could be a value-add point of difference.
City Shop also owns fruit and vege farms as well as a Shanghai based distribution company with cold chain.
2017, China’s leading fresh produce e-commerce platform Fruitday (天天果园) now owns City Shop. Their purchasing is now split, City Shop are buying everything besides fruit and Fruit Day are making purchasing decision for the fruit category.
